Travel to Mali
Mali is the diamond in West Africa’s crown. Timbuctoo, Mopti, Djenne - the mighty Niger Rive dictates its towns, which have become as legendary as the river itself. Timbuctoo, once the fabled centre of learning, and the ‘raison d’etre’ of the 19th century explorers, still retains its charm - if only because of its remoteness. Arriving in Mopti is still much like it was in some bye-gone age with boats being charged with tablets of salt and a lively cargo of goats. Djenne is magnificent, dominated by its massive mud mosque, the largest of its kind in the world, and along the Bandiagara Escarpment is the home of the Dogon people, whose myths and legends form a complex culture, which is still being continued and much studied by leading anthropologists.
With its breathtaking scenery including colossal villages carved into the cliffs , huge mosques built out of mud, and massive camel caravans traveling across the desert, Mali is certainly considered a out of this world destination. Mali is a quickly developing country especially in the main cities.
On the trip you will travel to Mali capital Bamako, with its brash cacophony of music, noise and colour with people buying and selling you will be surprised by how it defies its role as the capital city of one of the poorest countries in the world. You will also travel to the Dogon country where you will experience the stunning views of villages, gardens and sand dunes.
